Optix by Tobias Dostal
DECEIVES PROS, DESTROYS LAYMEN
Optix was, without a doubt THE #1 TRICK OF MAGIC LIVE.
If you were there, you know what this is and you don't need to read further. The 'add to cart button' is ready for you.
Chances are, if you were there, you've still got the evidence on your phone, because you recorded it. Do you remember the chatter spreading around the convention, the reactions, the child-like feeling of being completely amazed again? It's what magic is about.
During this convention, Tobias Dostal was constantly surrounded by the biggest names in magic. Daniel Garcia, Doug McKenzie, Dan White, Kenner, Patrick Kun, Garrett Thomas, John Stessel... The list goes on.
We heard through the grapevine that David Copperfield himself specifically came to the Orleans casino to see one effect... This effect. Optix.
Offers from various prominent performers were made to obtain this effect for their private shows and TV spots.
However, what they didn't know was that Ellusionist and Tobias were specifically IN Las Vegas to film it.
"This is my favorite thing that I've EVER created. I'm so proud of it and want as many magicians as possible to perform OPTIX."
- Tobias (Toby) Dostal, Optix creator.
THE UNIVERSAL GIMMICK
Android & iPhone
The gimmick Toby was using to fool everyone in the trailer (filmed in Las Vegas) was built at his studio. He pieced it together out of spare parts and filled his office with the unforgivable smoke that only soldered metal could give off.
Art is dedication.
However, Ellusionist has taken that gimmick to the next level. With our superb manufacturing contacts, we've created a sleek, robust, universal gimmick.
Charged by a magnetic-locking usb cable in under an hour, the battery gives off over 2 and a half hours of illumination.
If the average requirement for the light during performance is 30 seconds, that's around 300 performances per charge.
THE ULTIMATE TRANSPO ROUTINE
Optix can be used for a multitude of vanishes and transpositions. However, there is one stand-out routine that seems impossible.
This routine, if performed, cannot be followed.
Borrow a spectators phone, then hand them your phone to film the magic... In an instant, their phone vanishes into thin air. No sleeves. No pulls. GONE.
When they ask where their phone is, you point to their own hands. The phone they've been holding the entire time is THIER phone.
That means they filmed their phone vanishing, on their own phone. It's only confusing because the laws of science shouldn't allow it to be possible.
Their phone exists in two different places... At the same time.
FINDING SOMETHING TO SUIT YOUR STYLE
Amongst that critically-acclaimed version of Optix, Toby gives other superb routines and methods including:
PROBLEMS? WHAT PROBLEMS?
Phones come in all shapes, sizes and colors.
In the trailer you'll see Toby perform Optix with gold phones, black phones, white phones, androids, iPhones, phones with cases, phones with pop-sockets... It genuinely doesn't matter.
Optix isn't restricted by the ability to use only one kind of phone, it's universal.
Toby will teach you exactly what you need to do to overcome every kind of phone your audience could hand you... and that chapter is only 5% of the entire tuition video, so there isn't a lot to overcome with this ingenious gimmick. It just works.
With thousands of performances and 13 different production samples, if you can name it, we've seen it and fixed it... so you can feel comfortable during performance.
In this 90 minute training video, Toby covers EVERYTHING you need to know about Optix, so you can get the most out of it.
WHAT THE PROS ARE SAYING
Most of them are still speechless, but Toby reached out to two of his favorite magicians to see what they thought 6 months after seeing it. Did the hype wear off? Does it still hold up?
This is what they said:
"Optix is what magic should feel like."
- Danny Garcia
"Very few effects get me excited about the future of magic... THIS ONE DOES."
- Garrett Thomas
"That's the BEST magic trick I've seen in my entire life."
- John Stessel
TAYLOROptix was the first thing other than downloads that I've purchased from Ellusionist. This thing rocks, I would recommend this to any magician who likes quick impromptu effects that pack a punch. My favorite part is that the get a small video to remember you by without giving anything away! Love it, 5 star for sure!
SummaryJust received, daunted by the handling and understand will need hours of practice but I feel worth the effort because I know the reactions will be unbelievable. Practise is what we all need to do to perfect magic tricks so all in a days work. The light button could have been placed in a more user friendly position but I may not be saying that in a months time.
SalomonOptix is amazing. In the main routine you vanish their phone...and then point out that they have been holding it the whole time, which leaves peope more stupified than "stupefy!"
However, I think it is important to note that Optix can be performed without the need of borrowing a phone as a quick "flashy" opener that introduces you as a magician.
I also think that the trick is not for everyone; we all have different performance preferences and styles and some people may not like performing with this style of gimmick or gimmicks in general. Fortunately I live for gimmicks and this fits my style!
The trick will take some work to look as flawless and clean and Tobias. Practice in front of a mirror, maybe with polarized glasses on to not go blind, and work at it, and readjust the routine to better fit you. I personally have tweaked the load procedure to make it more comfortable and consistent for myself. Also, by rotating and twisting your wrist, you may find that the gimmick vanishes better.
Overall, you should get this if you think it will fit your magic style. You might think there is no way it can be pulled off....but it works...and it fries minds.
CHERYLThis gimmick is well made. I combine it with ring, coin magic. I will disappear the gimmick and thn turn it into a ring or a coin and continue my magic from there and ending with a ring through can or coin through can.
WalterThe button needs to be bigger. Totally ineffective in broad daylight. Just don't do it. One needs to be careful, even in brightly lit rooms. Consider your angles if you've got "Spoilers" in your audience to the sides or behind you. All in all, a Helluva neat invention. I'd give it 5 stars if it wasn't for that button.
VikashThis is the best magic trick I have ever performed in front of my friends. They were speechless by seeing this. But I did the easy vanish I could perform (eating vanish), as some effects require more practice than just the gimmick. They were so mad on seeing this effect.
ThuanIts very good, the twist that comes into play in the end. There a lot of possibilities with this gimmick and the trailer is just a short example of what this thing is capable of. Its notably better and easier for magicians to perform this at night or in darker settings since its harder for spectator to recognize their own phone and cover any flashes, but the creator does goes useful insights and tips to help eliminate problems. Also a lot of practice, especially in front of a mirror is required for optimized performance live, this isn't easy as it looks and requires plenty of time to master. Remember that it stays forever on their phone and they'll be showing it for the rest of their life!
I'm quite satisfied from what I received, however the price especially in other countries isn't friendly (costed me more than 100 bucks aud to afford). Otherwise, I'd recommend this revolutionary kicker to any magician.
brianButton should have been on the side of the gimmick. But yes! This will definitely take a lot of practice to pull this off.
AlexOptix is one of the most clever and fantastic ideas for an effect / gimmick I have seen in a LONG time.
I am a worker, and am grateful to be able to perform 3 to 5 times per week.
I received Optix only two days ago, and still have a lot of practicing to do. The concept, the instructions and the gimmick are superb.
The only thing I'd recommend is replacing the loop that comes with the gimmick with your own, as the one that came with it doesn't behave the same way it looks like it does for Tobias in the video. This may be due to my lack of practice compared to his, <<removed sentence by Ellusionist because of exposure>>
Point is, take this beautiful thing - make it your own. Don't be afraid to take it apart, tweak it and customize it so that it works best for you.
Also, I absolutely wouldn't recommend this for beginners as the misdirection and psychology involved to pull-off the effect shown in the trailer is "easy" as long as you have the chops and experience.
Overall, huge thanks to Tobias (and Team E) for sharing this with our community. Anytime I can add something to my arsenal that involves using a spectator's belongings, it immediately adds to the perception that they have just experienced REAL MAGIC, not just a magic trick, and as far as I'm concerned that's something I strive for everytime I perform.
Looking forward to becoming better at this, so I can do it justice and create the punch it deserves.
GeorgeAbsolutely amazing effect and gimmick quality. Tobias makes this look so natural, and i will warn you that this is not a gimmick that does all of the work for you. You will need to practice it you want to pull this off properly. Tobias teaches a few different vanishes and changes to fit various situations, but the blow vanish is by far my favorite and the one that I personally enjoy the most.
A jacket and darker attire is preferred, but the whole effect can still be pulled off with good audience management and misdirection.
