Optix by Tobias Dostal
DECEIVES PROS, DESTROYS LAYMEN
Optix was, without a doubt THE #1 TRICK OF MAGIC LIVE.
If you were there, you know what this is and you don't need to read further. The 'add to cart button' is ready for you.
Chances are, if you were there, you've still got the evidence on your phone, because you recorded it. Do you remember the chatter spreading around the convention, the reactions, the child-like feeling of being completely amazed again? It's what magic is about.
During this convention, Tobias Dostal was constantly surrounded by the biggest names in magic. Daniel Garcia, Doug McKenzie, Dan White, Kenner, Patrick Kun, Garrett Thomas, John Stessel... The list goes on.
We heard through the grapevine that David Copperfield himself specifically came to the Orleans casino to see one effect... This effect. Optix.
Offers from various prominent performers were made to obtain this effect for their private shows and TV spots.
However, what they didn't know was that Ellusionist and Tobias were specifically IN Las Vegas to film it.
"This is my favorite thing that I've EVER created. I'm so proud of it and want as many magicians as possible to perform OPTIX."
- Tobias (Toby) Dostal, Optix creator.
THE UNIVERSAL GIMMICK
Android & iPhone
The gimmick Toby was using to fool everyone in the trailer (filmed in Las Vegas) was built at his studio. He pieced it together out of spare parts and filled his office with the unforgivable smoke that only soldered metal could give off.
Art is dedication.
However, Ellusionist has taken that gimmick to the next level. With our superb manufacturing contacts, we've created a sleek, robust, universal gimmick.
Charged by a magnetic-locking usb cable in under an hour, the battery gives off over 2 and a half hours of illumination.
If the average requirement for the light during performance is 30 seconds, that's around 300 performances per charge.
THE ULTIMATE TRANSPO ROUTINE
Optix can be used for a multitude of vanishes and transpositions. However, there is one stand-out routine that seems impossible.
This routine, if performed, cannot be followed.
Borrow a spectators phone, then hand them your phone to film the magic... In an instant, their phone vanishes into thin air. No sleeves. No pulls. GONE.
When they ask where their phone is, you point to their own hands. The phone they've been holding the entire time is THIER phone.
That means they filmed their phone vanishing, on their own phone. It's only confusing because the laws of science shouldn't allow it to be possible.
Their phone exists in two different places... At the same time.
FINDING SOMETHING TO SUIT YOUR STYLE
Amongst that critically-acclaimed version of Optix, Toby gives other superb routines and methods including:
PROBLEMS? WHAT PROBLEMS?
Phones come in all shapes, sizes and colors.
In the trailer you'll see Toby perform Optix with gold phones, black phones, white phones, androids, iPhones, phones with cases, phones with pop-sockets... It genuinely doesn't matter.
Optix isn't restricted by the ability to use only one kind of phone, it's universal.
Toby will teach you exactly what you need to do to overcome every kind of phone your audience could hand you... and that chapter is only 5% of the entire tuition video, so there isn't a lot to overcome with this ingenious gimmick. It just works.
With thousands of performances and 13 different production samples, if you can name it, we've seen it and fixed it... so you can feel comfortable during performance.
In this 90 minute training video, Toby covers EVERYTHING you need to know about Optix, so you can get the most out of it.
WHAT THE PROS ARE SAYING
Most of them are still speechless, but Toby reached out to two of his favorite magicians to see what they thought 6 months after seeing it. Did the hype wear off? Does it still hold up?
This is what they said:
"Optix is what magic should feel like."
- Danny Garcia
"Very few effects get me excited about the future of magic... THIS ONE DOES."
- Garrett Thomas
"That's the BEST magic trick I've seen in my entire life."
- John Stessel
SummaryIn 25 years of performing magic, I can't recall having so much fun practicing this astounding vanish in the mirror
This is genuine magic, certain to get plenty of use and will never once live in the junk drawer
Excellent teaching, wonderful applications, and a plethora of different vanishes easily makes Optix worth the investment
VouthynarHaving the product in hand I would say it’s nice. I wish the button pad could have been bigger, if you have the special thing that comes with it, you know what I’m talking about. I purchased two immediately because I knew I could open with this, and I do a number of things with spectators cell phones later sets in my show. It takes some dexterity to manipulate but once you have it, the next step is to be brave enough to perform it. I got small hands and fat fingers, even with the work showing I still pulled it off but immediately deleted the videos on the spectators phones. This is still a great effect with a nice gaff. Maybe the next one will have some simple upgrades. However I did manage to create a work around. Some scotch tape and a flat sturdy piece of plastic that’s black can create a paddle to press the button if you have fat fingers like me. (Ellusionist likes putting small buttons on things like this ie pyro wallet). This is some futuristic magic, everyone has a cell phone. Get it if you are a serious about messing some heads up. And no, they will not notice it’s their phone in their hand.
SummaryWhen I pre ordered this I was a little weary as usually if things are too good to be true, they usually are.....
This thing is unbelievable. The gimmick is built super well, thought out, and utterly reliable. The vanishes are like watching a camera trick and for the price, idk how they could have made the gimmick as nice as it is. This is something we expect to pay WAY more for. If you like the trailer, or you just want to make your phone vanish. This is THE WAY to do it
ANTONYThe first F/X I can give not a 5-star rating but a 10-star rating for several reasons. I am a full-time International entertainer who always gets asked to "DO SOMETHING" and perform OPTIX.
First, it looks like real magic.
Second. it plays really big and is remembered because the spectator now has a video business card of you and your performance.
Third this F/X includes the volunteer which is so important to add creditability and wonder to what would otherwise be a simple vanish of an object. The fact that most people are so connected to their phones, add to the fact you can be sure all eyes and attention will be on you.
Another important point is it can be performed in a short period of time making it a great signature effect that will leave them AMAZED and with a souvenir that can be posted online for social media mayhem. OPTIX is more than a magic trick, IT IS AN ILLUSION that can be performed almost anywhere at ant time. A remarkable illusion.

SummaryI'm waiting for mine should be here today, but I did my preorder when the first teaser trailer was out. I found the link and ordered it immediately when I saw the reaction of some of my favorite magicians. I could not say no I'll wait for reviews, I just jump and got it. Then I saw the tutorial when it was release and omg i was so right to get it, the gimmick is so clever. Don't hesitate get it - you won't regret it.
Summaryjust watched video and waiting for this trick to arrive at mail
probably one of best tricks in last 10 years. and so versatile prop :) :) :)
michaelThis is truly amazing! i just ordered it and finished watching the video, and i cant wait to get my hands on the gimmick, which is so cleverly built. its very practical and has one genius little feature that makes it very easy to use. You can use almost any phone! Really, its that good. This masterpiece is practical, not very hard and has pretty good angles, especially if you use the swallow vanish. in the instruction Tobias can be seen performing for a very big crowd, and by using the swallow vanish he gets away with it.
With how amazing this is, i don't think its for everyone. It gets amazing reactions, and is so well made and so well thought out, but its bold and is definitely not meant for inexperienced performers. it requires pretty good audience management and some practice. The one problem i have with this is that you do need a jacket or a coat. Anything that goes over your shirt and has a front opening, like jackets, coats, hoodies etc. This requirement is not for the vanish, but for the other part of the trick.
In conclusion, this effect is amazing! Its brilliant and interesting and will make people go crazy. but you should think about purchasing it before clicking the add to cart button. Other than that it is totally worth it!
ScottI just got this in the mail yesterday and it is ingenious. I thought I had an idea of how it worked, but I was wrong. It's even better than what I thought. The gimmick is awesome and the method is very clever. I practiced this in front of a mirror yesterday and I couldn't help but laugh as I was fooling myself. I can tell that everytime I perform this, I'm gonna smile just thinking about how the method is fooling my spectator. Tobias really created an epic effect with this one.
DavidEvery now and then I see an effect and say damn it that's clever. I wish I thought of that. This is one of those moments. I hate him for coming up with it first. Good job f*cker!
